Travel Spotlight: Quebec
In this blog we’re taking a virtual road trip through Quebec's countryside, before we head to the city of Montréal next month for CERC. Let’s explore the variety of picturesque destinations that capture the essence of the province’s rural charm and natural beauty…
The Eastern Townships
One of the most notable regions is the Eastern Townships, located just a short drive from Montréal. This area is known for its rolling hills, quaint villages, and plentiful vineyards.
Get back to nature
Nature enthusiasts will want to explore towns like Magog and Bromont, which offer an abundance of opportunities to hike or cycle. The region also boasts several lakes perfect for boating and fishing, and in more recent years, has become a popular spot for kayaking and paddle boarding. Parc de la Baie-de-Magog is an ideal place to explore with or without a watercraft, as the beach also offers a relaxing space to appreciate Magog’s serenity. If you’re feeling energetic but prefer dry land, there are many walking trails to navigate.
If you’re seeking a vacation activity that’s more relaxing, make sure Spa Balnea is on your list. Nestled in the heart of Bromont, this spa offers a serene escape with a range of luxurious treatments and amenities. Unwind and recharge within this stunning landscape.
Scenic walks through pleasant towns
Another gem in the Eastern Townships is the small city of Knowlton. Known for its charming streets and walkable downtown area, Knowlton is a haven for those who appreciate a leisurely stroll somewhere pretty. As you wander here, you’ll find cozy cafes and bistros where you can take a break and enjoy some local delicacies.
A short drive away, Sutton offers a similarly delightful experience. Whether you're in the mood for a gourmet meal or a casual bite, Sutton's culinary scene has something to offer. The town’s welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings make it a perfect spot for a day trip.
Wine down and relax
The Townships are also famous for their wine routes, where visitors can tour vineyards, participate in tastings, and learn about the winemaking process from local experts.
As well as the vineyards, the Eastern Townships are also renowned for their cider trail and apple orchards. This region is dotted with orchards that produce some of the finest ciders in Quebec. Visitors can take a tour, participate in tastings, and even pick their own apples during the harvest season. The cider trail is a lovely way to experience the local flavours and traditions, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring the area.
Mountains aren’t just for winter
Although famous for its ski resort, Mont-Tremblant is a year-round destination offering a plethora of activities. During the summer months, visitors can hike through the lush forests or enjoy water sports on Lake Tremblant. The Tremblant village at the base of the mountain is filled with shops and restaurants, with cultural events held throughout every season.
For a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, head to the Scandinave Spa, located in a serene forested area. This spa offers a range of treatments including hot baths, cold plunges, and relaxing saunas, providing the perfect setting for rejuvenation.
Autumn brings a spectacular display of fall foliage, making it a popular spot for leaf-peeping and photography. Winter then transforms Mont-Tremblant into a snowy paradise, with opportunities for skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
Visit Vermont
For those looking to extend their adventure beyond Quebec, crossing over to Vermont for the day is a great option. The drive through the scenic countryside is an experience in itself, and once in Vermont, you can explore charming towns, vibrant markets, and stunning natural landscapes.
Whether you want to head to the big city of Burlington, or opt for an idyllic wander around Stowe (named by Conde Nast as one of America’s most beautiful towns), a day trip to Vermont adds an exciting dimension to your journey.
Route de la Nouvelle-France
This road trip, translated to the New France Route, offers first-time visitors a captivating journey through Quebec's rich history and culture and stretches from Quebec City to the Île d'Orléans. Along the way, visitors can explore sites such as the Maison Chevalier, an 18th-century house that now serves as a museum showcasing the daily life of New France settlers.
We’ve only scratched the surface here of the beautiful places Quebec has to offer. Check back for our next blog where, instead of country scenery, we’ll be exploring the vibrant cities of the province and sharing the Sprout team’s favourite spots to eat, drink and sightsee.
