Travel Spotlight: Destination Vancouver Island

It’s Island Time…Canadian Style

We’re entering the dog days of summer and we’re operating on island time, taking it easy and breezy in the beautiful islands of Vancouver. From wilderness to wanderlust, read on as we guide you through our top picks of what to explore, eat, and experience this summer in this beautiful region.

This Land Is…

We love spotlighting Canada not only to discover what adventures await in our own backyard, but to pay homage to our country’s indigenous roots and celebrate our heritage. Vancouver Island has so much to offer, but above all we acknowledge:

“This land is the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Kwakwaka’wakw,
Nuu-chah-nulth, and Coast Salish peoples. We are grateful to the First people of Canada,
who have been stewards of this land since time immemorial.”
- vancouverisland.travel

With hearts full of respect, gratitude, and excitement we’re off to explore the largest island on the west coast of North America!

Into The Wild: North Island

Starting off raw and rugged, the northern region of Vancouver Island takes our breath away with its volcanic rock landscape and uninhabited wilderness.

Be at one with sea lions, whales, and bears - oh my! This region is known for nautical trips spotting some of Canada’s most magnificent mammals. Hit the whale-rich Pacific coast waters for sightings and memories that you’ll never forget.

Sprout Spotlight:
Alert Bay

For the history and cultural buff, Alert Bay is the oldest community on Vancouver Island and well-known for its celebration of Native history, culture, and artifacts. Check out the world’s tallest totem pole, carved by six Kwakwaka’wakw artists

From Land to Sea: Central Island

A place that has it all, from Nanaimo to Campbell River the central region of Vancouver Island is a hiker’s and foodie’s heaven.

Sprout Spotlight: Nanaimo

In true Canadian fashion, a tray or two of Nanaimo Bars tends to appear at summer BBQs, a sweet treat that originates from the historic town of Nanaimo. Take your love of the desert to the next level on the Nanaimo Bar Trail, a delicious tour of classic and creative interpretations of the treat along the region from Lantzville to Cedar.

When the Sky Meets the Water: Pacific Rim

The world's largest oceans inlays live in the majestic Pacific Rim region of Vancouver Island. From salmon fishing festivals to kitesurfing, hit the open waters and invite the wanderlust in you.

Sprout Spotlight: Tofino

Surf’s up in Tofino, a surfers paradise right here in Canada. Tofitians proudly take it all in, from moving to the rhythm of the tide to tasting the savour of local culinary delights, Tofino is a gem that you can’t miss!

Eat. Shop. Recharge.: South Island

Whether you’re looking to explore new food scenes or craving some R&R spa vibes, communities in the South Island are bursting with spontaneity and serenity. Great for families and solo travelers, this region is one of the most populated in Vancouver Island.

Sprout Spotlight: Greater Victoria and Downtown

Calling all foodies, this is your place to experience the diverse culinary scene in the South Island.

Songhees Seafood & Steam: the first Indigenous food truck in B.C. & Vancouver Island.

Taking a tour through Victoria Island reminds us to re-connect; with nature, local communities, and ultimately with ourselves to broaden our experiences and not be afraid to try new things. From land, sky, to sea get out there and explore - adventure awaits!

Greetings From Vancouver!

We’re departing from the Island and heading to the City of Vancouver for CERC 2023 held from September 17-19th. Sprout is a proud Silver Sponsor, and all in on the conference theme: Championing Change in Global Mobility. Let’s challenge the status quo in Relocation.

If you’re planning to be in Vancouver, give us a shout hello@sprout.global - we’d love to connect!

Whether by ferry, flight, or train getting to Vancouver Island from the Hyatt Regency Vancouver is a scenic breeze, why not add in a tour of the Island while in the city for CERC?!
